Easy Grilled Oysters for Dinner

Easy grilled oysters for taste and for health

Oysters are one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acid, a tough-to-find nutrient that the Heart and Stroke Foundation recommends to help protect against heart disease. And as a bonus, there’s growing evidence that omega-3 can help defend against dementia and Alzheimer’s, too.

It’s a shame that many people are intimidated by preparing them at home – don’t be nervous! One of the easiest ways to prep oysters at home, especially in our warmer months, is by grilling them on your backyard BBQ. Give these super simple Grilled Oysters With Lime and Butter a try:

  • Pick up 4 to 6 large, unshucked oysters per person from our market (yes, unshucked!)
  • Preheat your grill to medium-high, about 450 degrees
  • Place the oysters, shell side down, on the grill and cook until the shells naturally pop open – anywhere from 4 to 8 minutes
  • Gently remove the oysters onto a heat-resistant surface and pry the shells open without spilling any of the liquid-y goodness (pro tip: wear some oven mitts for this one!)
  • For each open oyster, add a tablespoon of melted butter, a squeeze of fresh lime juice, and a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • To serve, pour out the juices, butter, and oyster onto a slice of fresh crusty bread.

Technically this is an appetizer. But we won’t tell if you turn it into a main course – because who wants to eat anything else when oysters are in the house?
